— A Simple Favor Became a Call to Pray

A year after my late husband and I moved into our new home, a young man purchased the vacant lot in our neighborhood. During our morning and evening walks, we saw him working alone—moving rocks, leveling the ground, and preparing the site for his future house. He always smiled and greeted us.
Then, he stopped coming. When he finally returned, my husband was gone, and I was walking alone.
He always asked, “How are you doing?” I just nodded, not wanting him to see my grief.
He never asked, “Where is your husband?” but he must have known. I could feel the kindness in his eyes—he was truly asking how I was holding up.
I was gone for a few months during the summer. By the time I returned, his house was finished, and his whole family had moved in.
I’m leaving home again soon, but what about my ZZ plant—the one that traveled thousands of miles with us to AZ? I can’t just leave it to die in an empty house.
Even though we hardly know each other, I somehow trust him. You can tell if someone is good.
So, a few days ago, I asked, very hesitantly, if he would take care of my plant, and he said yes without hesitation.
He picked up the plant the day before.
Then last night, he texted me that his wife, Lili, was diagnosed with lymphoma, a blood cancer.
Every evening, while walking, I would run into him with his twin daughters, but his wife was always sitting on the porch, looking tired.
Now I understand why.
Tonight, I didn’t run into his family while walking. They must be with Lili at the hospital.
If I hadn’t asked him for the favor and exchanged phone numbers, he wouldn’t have shared the shocking news with me.
Was it merely a coincidence?
Maybe it’s God who connected us, because God knows that Lili needs prayers.
Please pray for Lili’s successful chemotherapy.
